RAKEZ Business Community Reaches 50,000 Active Companies

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone has reached 50,000 active companies from more than 100 countries across over 50 sectors, reflecting continued growth in the emirate’s business and industrial ecosystem.

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone has announced that its business community has reached 50,000 active companies, marking a significant expansion of the economic zone's international investor base.

The companies represented within RAKEZ now span more than 100 countries and over 50 economic sectors, ranging from entrepreneurship and professional services to manufacturing and industrial operations.

RAKEZ said the milestone reflects continued investor interest in Ras Al Khaimah as a location for business establishment, manufacturing and regional expansion.

The growth is not concentrated within a single industry. RAKEZ's community includes businesses operating across areas such as:

  • engineering and industrial equipment;

  • building materials;

  • food and beverage;

  • electronics and electrical products;

  • metals;

  • apparel;

  • advanced and light manufacturing;

  • general trading;

  • e-commerce;

  • media and marketing;

  • wholesale and distribution;

  • management consultancy; and

  • professional services. RAKEZ

The breadth of the business community reflects RAKEZ's combined positioning as both a commercial and industrial economic zone. This allows it to accommodate businesses ranging from individual entrepreneurs and service companies to SMEs, manufacturers and multinational enterprises.

RAKEZ has continued to expand its industrial and manufacturing ecosystem alongside its commercial licensing activities. Its industrial community includes businesses involved in engineering, industrial equipment, food production, metals, building materials, electronics and several forms of light and advanced manufacturing.

This distinguishes RAKEZ from jurisdictions focused primarily on office-based or service activities. For industrial investors, the business setup decision may involve not only the appropriate legal entity and licence, but also requirements relating to land, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, utilities, logistics and regulatory approvals.

RAKEZ says its current community includes businesses from more than 100 countries, reinforcing the international composition of the economic zone. The authority has expanded its international investor outreach through business missions, roadshows and partnerships in markets including India, Europe and China.

These programmes are intended to connect overseas companies with investment and expansion opportunities in Ras Al Khaimah. The internationalisation strategy is particularly relevant to companies seeking to use the UAE as a base for operations across the GCC, Middle East, Africa and wider international markets.

Following the 50,000-company milestone, RAKEZ said its priorities include further improvements in:

  • customer experience;

  • digital capabilities;

  • infrastructure; and

  • strategic partnerships.

The authority also intends to continue supporting Ras Al Khaimah's broader economic diversification programme. The focus therefore extends beyond attracting new company registrations toward developing an operating environment capable of supporting businesses as they expand.

RAKEZ operates as an economic zone supporting both free zone and non-free zone business structures, depending on the nature and operational requirements of the company. Its current business community includes entrepreneurs, SMEs, manufacturers and multinational companies across a wide range of commercial and industrial activities. RAKEZ's own business information now describes the zone as home to more than 50,000 multinational companies from over 100 countries.

The appropriate structure therefore depends on factors including the company's activity, customers, physical facility requirements, staffing, ownership model and intended markets.

NUR Advisory Note

The 50,000-company milestone reinforces Ras Al Khaimah's growing relevance within the UAE's business establishment landscape, particularly for SMEs, trading companies and industrial businesses.

However, the size of a business ecosystem should not by itself determine where a company establishes.

Companies considering RAKEZ should assess the jurisdiction against their actual operating requirements, including:

  • permitted business activities;

  • free zone or non-free zone structure;

  • access to the UAE mainland market;

  • warehousing or industrial-space requirements;

  • import and export requirements;

  • employee and visa needs;

  • banking;

  • logistics;

  • customer and supplier geography; and

  • future expansion plans.

The distinction is particularly important for manufacturers. A manufacturing project should be evaluated around the complete operating model, including production facilities, utilities, customs, logistics, approvals and distribution, rather than licence cost alone.

For international investors comparing UAE jurisdictions, RAKEZ's scale, industrial capabilities and multinational business community make Ras Al Khaimah an increasingly relevant option. The final jurisdiction decision should nevertheless follow a structured assessment of the company's intended activities and commercial model.
